Lartu says «Hello everybody! Welcome to the 2025 Eterspire yearly retrospective! What a year this has been. It
is
incredible
how far we have come. Really, really unbelievable. When I began this project in October 2020 as a solo
effort,
just trying to scratch the itch of ever making an MMO, I would never, ever have imagined how much this would
grow.
In fact, months later, when I convinced Tejo to join me on this journey, the numbers I used to try to show
him
that this was a viable project were that my initial version had reached about a thousand registered players.
Now we are closing the year at 500,000, and it blows my mind.
This is the second retrospective we ever do. It has been lovingly crafted by Manu, who you surely remember
and
love
from the Discord Server. He is our
Head
of
Communications, and one of the main forces behind the incredible growth the Eterspire community has had this
year.
Manu was the third person to join the Stonehollow Workshop team, and we certainly would not be where we are
without
his passion and dedication. I wanted to hijack his retrospective take this space to thank
him
for
his hard work, and I also want to thank and congratulate the rest of the team who make this incredible
experience
possible. We started this year as a team of 6 people. We are now 13, and we will be 15 in the coming weeks.
I
cannot
stress how incredible and humbling this is for me.
Thank you all for being here! Thank you all for being part of this incredible adventure (yes, you, the
player)!
Now, without further ado, the retrospective itself!»
As the year comes to a close, let's look back at everything that happened in and around Eterspire these last 12 months. 2025 has brought tremendous growth both for the game and its community, and this retrospective shows just how much has changed since last December!
A whole new area and town were introduced to the world map: Vestada.
This snowy mountain zone quickly became a central part of the game, serving as the setting for a brand-new chapter of Eterspire's main story quest, also released this month.
Another huge milestone followed shortly after: Controller Support!
One of our most highly requested features finally arrived in January. Players could now use any wired or Bluetooth controller to play Eterspire, and it worked like a charm!
February marked the introduction of our combat rework.
Previously, each class only had one active skill tied to their weapon and another tied to an amulet. With this update, classes gained access to a wide variety of class-specific skills to choose from, along with a powerful class ultimate to round out their kit.
This rework gave each class a clear identity and laid the groundwork for defining distinct roles in future group content.
We also made major improvements to the in-game chat system, adding new language channels, a dedicated trade chat, and multiple quality-of-life changes based directly on community feedback.
Mounts arrived! Players could now travel faster, and in style, with a trusty steed.
This month also marked the debut of multiplayer Trials.
Up to this point, Eterspire had only allowed solo combat, with party play limited to shared EXP. Trials introduced a brand-new game mode where groups of up to four players could work together to survive waves of enemies and defeat a powerful final boss.
New languages! Eterspire received localizations in 12 new languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Japanese, and Korean, among others. This update brought a huge influx of international players into the community.
April also introduced Eterspire's first-ever new class since launch: the Sorcerer.
As the game's first ranged class, the Sorcerer quickly became a fan favorite thanks to its high damage output and wide selection of elemental spells.
We added new outfit options to the character customization menu, replacing the old colorful shirts and pants with more refined looks.
The tutorial was overhauled to better introduce core gameplay systems, including dungeons and bosses, helping new players ease into the adventure.
We also introduced our first two “big” maps in the early game. Road of Beginnings and Oakridge Crossing are significantly larger than previous areas, while still being optimized for smooth performance.
A brand-new endgame group mode was introduced. Players could enter solo or with a party of up to four, battling infinite waves of enemies in pursuit of a new high score. We even added leaderboards both in-game and on our website!
Two new side quests (Imp Biscuit and Underground Ordeal) were also added, fleshing out the world and introducing new characters.
To top it all off, Eterspire was featured globally on the App Store this month, a massive milestone that helped bring in a wave of new players.
In our first update of the month, we introduced a point shop with cosmetic rewards for the Bastion Challenge.
We also released the Isle of Mist, our first “big” map built using a brand-new map system developed in-house. Alongside it came overworld chests, which can now be found all across Aetera.
Finally, on June 30th, we published our Steam page and officially announced Eterspire's Steam release date: September 15th.
July kicked off with the release of our roadmap for the remainder of 2025, outlining a packed lineup of upcoming features, content, and events.
The latest chapter of the main quest also launched this month, sending players up The Spire to face the Mysterious Stranger in a climactic confrontation.
Several existing maps were reworked, including Whitespeckle Plains and Deep Forest, while new areas such as Gloomy Isle and the Arid Ridge zone were introduced.
Also, for the first time ever, we activated a second server to support our rapidly growing player base.
At the start of the month, Virtuoso hosted his legendary no-sleep livestream, going from level 1 to 160 in a single 20-hour session. The stream also gave birth to several historic community memes, most notably the infamous Meteor Cheeto Shield (if you know, you know).
Following the stream, and after overwhelming community demand, the Legacy Shield finally appeared in the abandoned dragon cave.
August also brought another major map rework. The Firefly Forest was transformed as multiple smaller maps were merged into a single large area: Firefly Grove.
Players gained the ability to choose their world via the new world selection menu.
New Trials were added at levels 30, 50, 70, 80, and 100, expanding co-op gameplay across the entire progression curve.
The month also introduced new maps in the Northern Tundra and Fungi Island, along with a new Vestada quest: Grand Opening!
This was a huge month for Eterspire.
First and foremost, Eterspire launched on PC and Mac, officially becoming a fully cross-platform MMORPG.
The extra level cap was also increased from 2,000 to 4,000 this month.
New Remnant and Trial progress menus were added, giving completionists a way to track, and show off, their achievements.
September also marked the arrival of the first part of our current endgame arc: Darkness Beckons. This update introduced new maps, a new Remnant, ranged enemies, and the elemental affinity system.
On the community side, we hosted the “Find Bill” event with YouTuber Bill el Botas. Hundreds of players participated in a massive game of hide-and-seek, searching the world to find Bill in his iconic golden armor.
The Archer class was released, our most requested class to date and the game's second ranged option, complete with its own unique gear sets.
The endgame expanded once again with a new Trial and two new Remnants, featuring new best-in-slot gear and new dodgeable AoE attack patterns.
As always, October also brought our Halloween event, complete with spooky new cosmetics and NPCs dressed for the occasion.
This month included major improvements to the F2P experience. We added more inventory space, enabled skill resets using gold, made teleport orbs drop for free players, and more.
A new quest, Going Through the Potions, had players assisting a group of witch sisters with their unusual experiments.
The Bastion Challenge also received substantial improvements based on community feedback, making runs faster, more engaging, and more fun.
Thanks to the PC release, our community continued to grow and we surpassed 10,000 members on Discord. This also meant Manu had to finally deliver on his promise of the legendary bondiola recipe.
November was a very special month thanks to EVA 2025, the Argentine Videogame Expo.
We were one of the event's biggest sponsors, which meant our first-ever official booth, and Eterspire artwork all over the venue.
Even better, we won the People's Choice Award for the second year in a row, entirely thanks to our community's support.
To close out the celebration, Eterspire's main theme was performed live by a full orchestra in one of the region's most prestigious concert halls. You can find another recording here.
Lartu says «Best day of my life.»
To commemorate EVA 2025, we released our first-ever redeemable code, granting players a special mount. We also added a People's Choice Award cosmetic weapon, as promised during the voting campaign.
November also delivered long-awaited inventory system improvements, including new sorting options, hotkeys for faster interactions, and the introduction of the Wardrobe for cosmetics.
Lastly, one of our most ambitious side quests yet was released: Dungeons and Jackals, featuring a massive multi-layer dungeon unlocked through a series of puzzles.
December means Christmas, and Christmas means a new holiday event!
This year's event brought both new and legacy cosmetics, including Santa outfits, gift-wrapped weapons, and a Reindeer mount.
New content also arrived in the form of the quest Brave Spelunker of the Dwarfless Mines, along with a new island map: Seaside Islet.
We introduced an alpha version of private messaging, allowing players to message each other directly via chat commands. This feature will soon receive its own dedicated UI.
To close out the year, we added the Trial of True Darkness, a new endgame co-op Trial featuring unique and powerful Null gear.
Lartu says «Woooooahh, this has been SUCH A YEAR! Such a year!! So much stuff has happened that I almost wanted to, like, do a retrospective of the retrospective just to put into scale what a year this has been. For perspective, in 2025 we introduced:
In 2024 we had none of this stuff, can you imagine! And in fact, the level cap was raised from 140 to 160 AFTER last year’s retrospective, on December 30th, so that happened within the last 365 days too!
Eterspire in 2024 was SUCH a DIFFERENT game!!»
Lartu says «To celebrate the end of such a wonderful year, our official Eterspire Promotional Art Artist, Momochichi (ももちち), who is as amazing a person as he is talented, has drawn this incredible art piece, which you can also download as wallpapers to decorate your computer desktop with:
I have been following him on Twitter since before I had even begun making Eterspire, and I always told myself that I would love to someday have him, in particular, illustrate one of my games. We have been working with him for over a year now, it's unbelievable. When did we get here?
His art decorates not only our game, but also our office. We love it. And now, this holiday piece, with fireworks and all the lovable characters we have crafted over the years... I do not know how to explain the feeling, really. I cannot be happier. It's honestly a dream come true. The drawing, the world, the characters, the game, the community, everything.»
And just like that, 2025 is coming to an end.
What started as a year full of plans and hopes turned into the most exciting chapter in Eterspire's journey so far.
To everyone who played our game this year, whether for the first time or as a returning adventurer, thank you for being part of this world. We'll keep working hard to make 2026 even bigger, better, and more memorable.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!🥂🎉
Lartu says «Thank you, thank you all so, so much for being here, for being part of this amazing community, and for believing in us and in our game. Here’s to an amazing 2026, with even more growth, more content, more players, and more Eterspire all around! Once more, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!»
